At a point in time it felt as though Halo was the hottest franchise on the planet. No game is quite as synonymous with the Xbox 360’s legacy like Halo is. The flawed human nature on display was a realistic depiction that made this game a unanimous choice for Game of the Year in 2010. The game utilizes a morality meter that fluctuates depending on your in game actions. Red Dead Redemption’s characters are its defining feature. Highly textured surfaces and landscapes will leave you breathless. The graphics are beyond what was expected of the console at the time of release. Gunfights feel smooth and reward players who have mastered the aiming mechanic. The intuitive controls and third person camera combine to form a dynamic duo. Traveling through the open-world environment via horseback has never looked so beautiful. Missions feel fun and refreshing mostly due to the camera angle. Players progress through the game by completing missions. While the campaign showcases depth and hours of gameplay, the multiplayer feels somewhat hollow in comparison. In fact, the multiplayer mode is the game’s worst aspect. Those expecting game mode variety or quality multiplayer will be a touch disappointed. The game is a western themed action adventure that relies on the strength of its gameplay and storytelling. The story plays out like a feature film and it is a joy to step in the boots of main character John Marston. Red Dead Redemption is very much a campaign-centric game. Just when the world thought the Xbox 360’s performance peaked, this game came around to remind everyone that the seventh generation of consoles still had a lot to offer. However, Red Dead Redemption can proudly stand on equal footing with the aforementioned franchise. The foray outside of GTA came as a surprise considering the achievements of that particular franchise. The immensely successful Rockstar development team known for Grand Theft Auto secures a win yet again with Red Dead Redemption. If commercial success cannot measure the value of this console, let the value of the best Xbox 360 games do the measuring. Sport game enthusiasts and fantasy RPG gamers will both feel at home on the Xbox 360. The variety of games is like nothing you’d find on competing consoles. There are several Game of the Year candidates and winners on this list and, what’s more, the console catered to every type of gamer. The library of games linked to this seventh-generation console is impressive. This is mostly due to Xbox 360's catalog of great games. Microsoft’s beloved console means so much to so many gamers.
